Our first online class meeting—-and presentation (March 19, 2020)
Our first meeting in this new Zoom format is unusual. Like I mentioned
in my last post (but not specifically stated in this context), what I
will miss is the daily face-to-face interactions with the class and
instructions from the teacher. It has not gone online, and one of the
benefits is that the teacher will assign students who are working on
their group projects into breakout rooms — sort of a private
mini-meeting area where groups get together to work in privacy without
constant chit-chatter (one of the benefits of online class). Oh, and we
can share files and chat with each other about our projects at hand.
We also had a speaker talk about her work at various companies, specifically Code for America. It is an organization that works to address the widening gap between the public and private sectors in their effective use of technology and design, thereby improving government services for all. The speaker was a former student of Professor Bennet who went through it step-by-step with the help of a powerpoint presentation. I took a couple of screenshots that I will post below.
