Introduction (January 30, 2020)

A formal introduction is needed. My name is Chris Walker, and I am enrolled in ART DM 172 User Experience Design from Troy Bennett because I was kind of curious and interested when he brought this up two semesters ago towards the end of semester in one of his previous classes that I took from him as he was in the process of “restructuring the graphic/digital arts program”.

I took some graphic design classes in the past and was intrigued, and I always like to be challenged both mentally and physically.

I already have one certificate in the library field and thought to myself: why not try out for another

Chapter 3 Summary (February 12, 2020)

I can’t believe we’re already in week three and this class has gone into full gear—which is good because this weekend was all about the Oscars for me. I saw all of the Best pictures this year, and I was surprised that a foreign film from South Korea won the Best Picture honors. Wow! Hopefully this’ll be a big boost for not only the Korean film mark, but for foreign films. Talk about perfect timing that we are moving full steam ahead with the readings of chapter three, website readings, and our group project. UX Weblink Summary: The Five Steps to a Succesful UX Design (January 31, 2020)

This first week of class also saw me reading another article for class, this one from an article that talks about UX. Basically it’s a little re-hash of the introductory chapter that the class read, but it does go in-depth as to what UX Designers do, which is that they must be general with a high-level understanding of various aspects in order to make the design/app/technology suitable and meets the needs of the user. The article also list five steps as a good way of developing a successful UX design (the article says four, but there is a fifth step inserted in — obviously a typo on the author’s part): I think the first step is really important, which is to pay attention to the products that are of daily use. All About Creating Personas (March 4, 2020)

This week I had to read three online articles —- all talking about persona. The first was Nick Babich’s article “Putting Personas to Work in UX Design: What They Are and Why They’re Important”, where he defines persona as a commonly used tool in UX design that targets a specific user in mind when designing products. Babich defines personas as archetypical users whose goals and characteristics represent the needs of a larger group of users. Personas help build up empathy when designing a specific product.
